About Us

Venerable Tejassī

Venerable Tejassī

Venerable Tejassī has been a monastic for ten years, starting with a six-year apprenticeship in the Ajahn Chah tradition. Moving forward to join a heart-centered monastic community, he spent four years under the close guidance of his spiritual teacher in this life.

Here he received extensive training both for his own spiritual purification and also as a guide to support others' paths (roughly 800+ hours for individual guidance work, 200+ hours leading group sessions, and co-led 6 two week retreats.)

After receiving encouragements and blessings from his Teacher and community, Venerable Tejassī came back to the United States to develop a spiritual community.

Today, he serves as the spiritual guide of Heart-Path and is the co-founder of La Gracia Retreat Center.

Heart-Path is a Dhamma Community with an emphasis on developing Sincerity & Humility with Sensitive-Presence to Open The Heart, Enliven The Heart, and Awaken The Heart.

On Generosity the Buddha shared

"When a practitioner recollects their own Generosity: 'It is a gain, a great gain for me, that—among people overcome with the stain of selfishness—I live with my heart cleansed of the stain of selfishness, freely generous, open-handed, loving to let go, committed to charity, loving to give and to share.'
When a practitioner is recollecting their own Generosity thus, their heart is not overcome with passion, not overcome with aversion, not overcome with delusion. Their heart aligns, through Generosity. And when the heart is aligned, the practitioner gains a sense of the goal, gains a sense of the Dhamma, gains joy connected with the Dhamma."

The Dhamma has been openly offered since the time of The Buddha 2600 years ago.

The Dhamma is offered in Generosity and The Dhamma is supported by Generosity.

Generosity is a foundational quality to Open, Enliven, & Awaken the Heart.

As a Theravāda monk Venerable Tejassī in principle does not handle money directly, all financial offerings are handled by his steward Mary Hathaway.

Tune in with your Spiritual Inspiration & Material Capability, more & more develop a sense of what offering feels wholesome & sincere to your heart, realize that deeper Aligning with the Dhamma through Generosity, realize that Joy the Buddha shared is possible from Generosity.

View on Map

The center welcomes any sincere spiritual practitioner. This isn't a casual meditation hangout, it's a space with real spiritual charge. While being a Buddhist-informed environment, different traditions, faiths, or paths are honored.

Practitioners are required to follow these five precepts while living at La Gracia:

  • Not to kill any living being
  • Not to take anything that is not given
  • Celibacy
  • Not to lie
  • Not to take any intoxicants

Residential Stay (July–October)

A four-month Residential Stay where practitioners can come for any length of time, offering an environment for self-directed individual development within a supportive community setting.

Artist Residency (August)

A self-directed Artist Residency, open to artists of all disciplines, supporting participants in strengthening sincerity within their craft.

Offering Structure (Gift Economy)

La Gracia operates on the principle of the gift economy, or dāna. Rather than traditional fee-for-service transactions, the center offers its residential stays and group retreats as an act of generosity.

This is not a "free" service; it's a move from "what do I get?" to "how do we support each other?", it's a conscious shift from entitlement to reciprocity.
